Join us for our 4th Annual Charity Poker Run and "Cruiz" with the Moose!

This year's ride will benefit a child with cancer.  The son of a local teacher, David Heard has great spirit; and we are most fortunate to help such a deserving family.

David Heard

Pets:  2 cats, Patches and Beauty and about a dozen fish-mostly without names

Likes: Bike riding, Cub Scouts, Music, School, Reading ,Video Games

Favorite Foods: Pizza, Steak, His Mom’s Pancakes, Chocolate Milk

Until the Fall of 2008, David was enjoying a pretty normal childhood.  Going to school, playing soccer at the YMCA, and battling with his little Sister Daisy.  Soon he began feeling tired, and had trouble eating.  After a few weeks of doctor visits and tests, he was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Neuroblastoma.

Neuroblastoma is a cancer that grows from cells in the nervous system, in David’s case from his Adrenal gland. This cancer is diagnosed in about 650 children in the U.S. each year, most under the age of 5.  It accounts for 7% of all the childhood cancers in the U.S. David has been diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma, the most dangerous forms of the disease.

    Since 2008 David has undergone chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, radiation treatments, and anti-body and experimental treatments to try and get rid of the cancer and prevent it from coming back.  Through it all he has struggled to do normal things like keep up with school work, go on vacation, and enjoy time with friends and family.  This February (2010) David completed his last planned hospital admission and his last round of Cancer treatment, and he is looking forward to enjoying some well earned rest and has more than a few trips planned for the next few months.  Check out a video clip of David to see him in person at: http://www.wlvt.org/TEMPO/TSS/tempoid.htm
